Expedition Fiji
In 1998 and 1999, Sam Romey, Captain of the local Fijian dive ship, the "Fiji Aggressor", was accepted in as family, by the Nacamaki Village. Over the next 20 years, he traveled back many times to visit his Nacamaki family and the beautiful island they call home. He grew to love the families of the village as his own.

In 2016, when Cyclone Winston wiped out the village and endangered the lives and safety of his Fijian family, Sam committed to finding a way to restore the village; rebuilding what was lost and finding homes that would stand up to future storms.

This was the beginning of HARDROCK HOUSING FOR HUMANITY, a 501(c)3 non-profit established with the mission of building permanent housing solutions for those most vulnerable to weather related disasters.

In 2019 Expedition Fiji was created to restore, support, and provide long term solutions for Nacamaki Village, on Koro Island. This beautiful village of people had survived with their lives and Captain Sam was determined to ensure the safety of their future. The first set of volunteers arrived in November and the first HRHH project, The Village Hall, was underway!
In 2022 After a 2 year pause do to travel restriction from COVID 19 Hard Rock Housing returned to Nacamaki, Fiji. and finished the repairs of the village hall and installed the 7 sets of new mahogany doors. Won't you consider joining us on our next project?
In 2023 Hard Rock Housing returned to Nacamaki, Fiji and began the install a 12.5 KW solar power generation system to supply power to the village. This life changing event is now providing 24/7 power to the villager hall and the village can now have refrigeration for food and medical supplies. Due to the large amount of equipment and delays in shipping only half of the system was able to be installed so the rest will be completed in 2024. Hard Rock Housing also donated a solar charger controller for the school. Thanks to the generous donations of the volunteers all the school children received school supplies, clothes. backpacks, sunglasses and musical instruments.
In 2024 Hard Rock Housing returned to Nacamaki, Fiji to finish the install of the 12.5 KW solar power generation system to supply power to the village. Hard Rock replaced the damaged inverter for the village school with an updated and bigger 3 phase inverter allowing the school system to integrate to the village system. This created a larger more robust system benefitting the whole village. Hard Rock Housing also helped in the reconstruction of the village homestay house that will provide a place for visitors to relax and enjoy the beauty of the south pacific culture of the Fijian people while having the comforts of home.
In 2025 Hard Rock Housing returned to Nacamaki, Fiji to continue its commitment to sustainable development and community support. During this visit, the organization upgraded the village’s solar battery storage system by 30% and installed a new electrical distribution (breaker) panel, significantly improving the reliability and efficiency of the power system.
Hard Rock Housing also played a key role in launching the new Nacamaki Dive Shop by funding site preparation, including the use of an excavator to clear land for the foundation. In addition, a gas-powered cement mixer, along with concrete and rebar, was delivered to support ongoing construction efforts.
Continuing its long-term partnership with the community, Hard Rock Housing is actively collaborating with the Nacamaki Village Council and the Fijian Ministry of Energy to expand infrastructure improvements. Current initiatives include connecting remaining homes to the village power system, upgrading battery storage for the school’s solar installation, and advancing the engineering and integration of a hybrid solar-generator power system.
In 2026
Hard Rock Housing will be returning to Nacamaki to collaborate with the village on the creation of a world-class dive shop and water sports center. The goal is to help the community build an eco-friendly, self-sustaining facility that promotes both water sports and education.
With its stunning beach, fabulous dive sites, and a protected inner reef, Nacamaki offers incredible potential to become an affordable destination for adventure seekers and cultural enthusiasts. Off the beaten path, Nacamaki provides an authentic Fijian experience, preserving the old-school village lifestyle. Additionally, the village holds a unique distinction: its clan leader is known for the remarkable tradition of calling turtles from the ocean.
